"On the food again...just can't wait to get on the food again."

Well...I'll be damned if traveling doesn't make it tons and tons harder to stick to clean eating and exercising. Like, totally for real seriously!
I'm in Odessa visiting Grandparents (none of whom are very healthy-food oriented). They respect and eat around what I need, but my will power sinks by (enter percentage here). Today has been better than the past few, however, and I'm going for a walk/run with Lola later. I'll let you know how that goes.
More updates on Odessa and traveling to come-

p.s. No, that is not my car below...just a representation of how I feel!

Tiny Marathon

I did it! I started my morning out with a 6.2 mile walk. I gotta say, it made me feel proud...and bored. Walking alone is just boring! Yes, I had my iPod on with tons of great playlists to choose from and blah, blah, blah it was still boring. I'm not so good at the alone part of this. Lola's company for a portion of the walk helped. Here she is afterwards:

When I woke up it was nasty gray outside. When I stepped out the front door it was pouring down rain. Blech. I thought, "Well, I'm going to have to go back inside and walk later." Then it occurred to me...Amanda's guides at the Biggest Loser Resort are NOT going to cancel a hike because of rain. So why should I puss out? Here's a view of the rainy city on part of the walk:

Lastly, I have to show off my new shoes. They're not as shiny now that I've walked SIX point TWO miles in them and bits of my foot feel raw, but (!) they're the best shoes I've ever had:

Now I have to clean out my kitchen--which I was supposed to do last night--and find something clean and healthy to eat.

Here we go!

Raddichio and Skype

Hello my friends! Behold, below, the last of my Taco Bell habit for a long, long time. I'll give you a moment...

My wonderful wife is in Malibu, California as of this afternoon. She is beginning a 4 week (!!) stay at the Biggest Loser Resort at Fitness Ridge. It's a weight-loss resort (she calls it fat camp) that's just like the tv show only without being on tv.

It was terribly hard to say goodbye to her at the airport and is still a surreal concept that she won't be back for 28 days. I am excited for her, though. Freakishly excited. This is going to be such an awesome opportunity. As she said, "I won't come back all skinny," but she will come back a changed woman...who walked, like, 6+ miles every morning and did crazy cardio and strength training. Which brings me to me...

I can't have my wife coming home to me layin' on the couch stuffin' Snickers in my face-hole while she's ready to head out and conquer the world of clean-eating and regular exercise. So I gots to get my own show going here at home. This brings me to several goals that I have in her absence:

1. Walk 6 miles every morning, 6 days a week.

I have new shoes for this. Brooks (had never heard of them but, oooh-la-la!) at that. Today is Sunday the 13th of March and starting tomorrow morning, I walk. I know what you're thinking--that's an overly ambitious goal. Yes, it is. But did you read the part about what my wife is doing!!?? I gotta keep up with her!

2. Clean-eating.

This is no fad diet or passing craze. It's simple, reasonable deduction of certain facts. Processed foot is shit for your body. If you can't pronounce it, you shouldn't eat it (except raddichio). A clean eating diet means eating lots of colorful foods, whole grains, proteins and good fats. I could tell you more about it but first...

3. Study nutrition.

I got a nutrition textbook that's kind of for simple folks. It has the science behind nutrition but the basics as well. Which I need, direly. I'm not food smart and want to be. When Amanda comes home I want to have a better understanding of what I need to cook--and why--for us to stay healthy.

4. Strength training, yoga and cardio workouts.

Pretty simple. I'ma start doing those things.

Tonight I will clean out our entire kitchen. Gone are the hidden chocolate morsels and bacon. In are the greens, reds, yellows and chicken colors. It's an awesomely exciting time here!

I will be visiting my grandparents this coming week. This will be a test of will and strength because, well, because grandparents can be hard to hang with sometimes, but more so because it's so much easier to say, "Well, I should be spending time with them instead of out walking," or "we'll just eat whatever they want." And that last one would not be good. My grandparents are awesome but good eaters are none of them.

The drive will also be hard. Do you know how many Dairy Queens there are between here and West Texas? Ah, chicken finger baskets no more. I will be packing a cooler for the drive and the stay overnight between here and there and will only pack goodness with no allowance for any "outside" food.

Lastly, I love Skype. It's an awesome way to talk to my wife AND see her beautiful face.

Peace out, french fries.
